MPLAB X 3.61挂起在Linux上

    So I've uninstalled 3.61 then uninstalled the previous version 3.60 also.  Then I re-installed 3.60.
It seemed to not freeze in the first instance at least.
Then I installed through the drop-down menu the Code Configurator 3.26.4 as it suggested.
Now I am stalled again.
I have loaded a project and pressed the Code COnfigurator button.  It is just hanging.

from the command line will kill it so you don't have to reboot. 
 
I'm using 3.61 with no issues on Linux, but I don't use MCC.

It looks as though it is MCC related.  I have just now been opening older projects on MPLAB_X 3.60 and using older chips and I can change something simple like the oscillator settings, press 'generate' and also then 'save'.
 
Trying it on the newer PIC18F27K40 with MPLAB_X 3.60 with MCC 3.26.4 and it is broken before I move the mouse! (so it seems ...)
The MCC is proving to be something difficult to implement it seems to me but I think it is a very good concept.
 
I'd like to move back to MPLAB_X 3.61 but there isn't much point as they are both using the latest MCC.

Since the last post I have uninstalled all previous and inactive MPLAB versions.  I have also re-loaded or installed anything java related and am up-to-date on all packages on the latest Linux Mint (May 2017).
I have tried to run MPLAB 3.61 again.
What I see is that when you start a new project and before you do anything you need to press the 'generate' button.  Doing this gets you a pop-up window to confirm the project file and filename for the results of your generation.
This is not the case if you press the 'save' button instead.  What you get if you press the 'save' button is a hung system.
 
Fairly simple problem ... surely there is more to it and surely someone else has seen this ??
