When speaking with Agilent, any obsolete or discontinued products that is close to end of support will not acquire a systems upgrade. That does not mean support is not available. It is just like PC support. The biggest obstacle the the Windows based instruments have in the operating system is when end users use it as a PC and start doing web searches, game playing and downloading s/w which will make the instrument vulnerable as any PC. You can install the latest S/W programs to protect it but requires constant updates of those programs.
If the end user simply uses the instrument as it was meant to be, and use the Ethernet port to data transmission and remote control you should have very little problems.
We support legacy products that still have Win95, Win98, Win2000Pro, WinXP.
The newer products will get updates based on product life and acceptance the new platforms for stability.
