I am using a Xilinx Spartan 3E starter kit. I want to download a configuration bit file to the SPI memory on board. I read a pdf file about making use of the picoblaze as well as a terminal program (HyperTerminal) to establish communication with the memory through an RS 232 cable. Although I have continuously tried to solve this issue, I always failed. So here are my questions:
1) Starting by the available hardware: Is it possible to program the SPI via an RS 232 to USB cable, or should I change the cable type?
2) If the RS 232 cable mentioned above could be used, is it limited only to the picoblaze, or can I program the SPI flash using iMPACT?
3) If iMPACT could program the SPI, in this case, how do I make it detect the presence of the cable when I plug it into the board?
4) It should be noted that I tried a lot of times with the picoblaze method (mentioned in point 1), but no use. The cable is not being detected.
Any help and document names is very much appreciated.
